The Nature Issue

Nature offers tantalizing examples of the magical properties of biology—self-assembly, self-repair, self replication and more. In our first print issue of Grow, we explore the complexities behind what that means for our growing ecosystem. In The Nature Issue, we ask questions like: how natural is the forest, anyway? What if you woke up and everything around you was alive? Can biotech interventions prevent the mass extinction of coral reefs? We highlight the people and organizations behind synthetic biology, the living organisms and natural cycles that make our environment, and the interactions in-between. This 80-page publication also includes a scratch-and-sniff postcard with an encapsulated extinct flower smell, resurrected by a team of scientists, designers, and artists in partnership with Ginkgo Bioworks.
